TECH MUST-HAVES FOR XMAS

Let's Talk University

We sat down with Niall to discuss the all-important subject of university. Here he answered some of the top questions sent in by PURSUITUK readers:

Is it too stressful?

"Umm...yes and no. Sorry, I know that's not helpful but it's dependent on your course, I guess. I do Sports Management and Finance at Loughborough Uni and it's a heavy workload but it's mostly coursework which really pushes me to work hard every day rather than cramming for exams. You lose the freedom to be irresponsible, but you gain freedom in other ways, being in charge of your own life and things like that."

How do I make friends?

"It's one of those things that happens naturally, I think. It's daunting when you walk into your dorm and don't know anyone but living so closely with people, you get to know them really quickly. There are also a bunch of societies and clubs you can join to find people on your wavelength, I joined a sporting society for example and get to play cricket and football which are my favourite sports and really take the edge off being far from home."

How do I afford it?

"Well, this is always a major question and one I definitely asked myself before looking into it. The average Uni course costs £9250 and then you have to factor in accommodation which will be upwards of £6000 for most places. You can apply for a student loan and maintenance loan to cover most of it, and you don't have to pay it back until you're settled in a job that pays £25K or more!"

GET INVOLVED- WHICH SPORT IS FOR YOU?

CRICKET

MARTIAL ARTS

GOLF

If you're more into team sports, Cricket may be for you! Here at Pursuit we do all the research so you don't have to and although commonly thought to be an 'old man's sport' cricket decreases stress and anxiety by as much as 50%... maybe something to take up while at Uni?

If you're more independent and want some individuality in a sport, Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) could be for you. Discipline is a huge factor in fighting sports but equally this is a great way to boost dopamine and serotonin levels and harness your inner Jackie Chan!

Again... we know it's associated wth the older generation but golf provides a luxury approach to sporting for the less athletic among us. It's your chance to try your hand at a long-established sport so why not have a go?!
